*Happy Easter!*

The 12,000 year old Marshalls Creek Mastodon is one of the most significant fossils excavated within the state of Pennsylvania. The mastodon was initially discovered in a bog by a mining company on July 5th, 1968.

The Marshalls Creek Mastodon recently completed a stint as the centerpiece in the Tusks! exhibition that traveled throughout the United States. The 'Ice Age Mammoths & Mastodons' exhibition displayed prehistoric animals that roamed North America until the end of the last Ice Age.

The end of Tusks! doesn't mean that the mastodon bones will be packed into a box and shelved. [as happened previously] The mastodon has now been reassembled in its permanent location at the State Museum of Pennsylvania, in the new paleontology gallery.

'Life Through Time: A New Paleontology Experience,'  documents environmental changes spanning 296 million years, and features Phytosaurs, which resemble modern crocodiles, the Parasaurolophus, a dinosaur known for its ornamental cranial crest, and a Platybeladon, which is related to the elephants of today.
