Chanticleer Gardens is located outside the city limits of Philadelphia. A great escape from urban life- spend the entire day or just an afternoon strolling the grounds, enjoying a picnic, [like I did] or reading the paper. There are a great amount of plants growing throughout, as well as unique architectural elements scattered at regular intervals along the pathways. The estate is the main structure and serves as the entrance into the gardens. The color scheme of the flora varies and is dependent upon what season you visit the grounds. Springtime and summer both offer a vast amount of flowers and trees in full bloom. These vibrant displays of color have been meticulously planned and are really wondrous to look at. Use the What's in Bloom guide to see what is blooming now. Interesting elements are everywhere. Highlights include lily ponds, waterfalls- both manmade and natural, majestic shade trees, ornamental gardens, hillsides, rolling meadows, a stable, bridges, sculptures, and the sprawling estate itself. Even the parking lot is the nicest I have ever seen, yes, I said that- the parking lot. Refer to the Garden Guide for a greater understanding of the layout.
