A series of hardcore explosions on the sun's surface are creating coronal mass ejections. ie: pieces of sun are breaking off into the atmosphere. Due to the enormous size and distance of these solar flares, speculation is that they will enter into the Earth's atmosphere. This, in turn, will distort the magnetic fields of our planet, causing a geomagnetic storm.
NOAA has stated that this will cause grid disruptions. However, solar radiation was predicted to reach G3, but it has only reached S3 so far. The main event for me= the potential for witnessing the Aurora phenomenon from the backyard!
